Salman Khan Was Unsure About Hosting Dus Ka Dum, Father Salim Khan’s Advice Changed His Mind

Before becoming the face of Bigg Boss, Salman Khan had doubts about hosting Dus Ka Dum in 2008, but his father Salim Khan’s advice helped him move forward.

Long before Salman Khan became closely associated with Bigg Boss, he had already established himself as a television host. His journey into television hosting began in 2008 with Dus Ka Dum, which aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

However, Salman was reportedly not fully convinced about taking up the show at the time. He was dealing with negativity and had reservations about how the audience would perceive him in the role of a host. Seeking guidance, he approached his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan. Salim’s advice to his son was simple yet effective: “Bharosa rakho, upbringing dikhao” (Keep faith in yourself, show your upbringing).

Taking his father’s words to heart, Salman went ahead with the show and let his genuine personality shine through during the hosting. His candid and natural style struck a chord with viewers and gradually helped shift public perception about him.

About Dus Ka Dum’s Format and Legacy

Dus Ka Dum, which premiered in 2008, was based on the American game show Power of 10. The format pitted two contestants against each other, with the winner decided based on their ability to make accurate guesses. This season marked Salman’s debut as a television host, and the show’s success led to a second season in 2009. The franchise made a comeback nine years later with Dus Ka Dum 3 in 2018, introducing a revamped format along with a play-along feature that let viewers participate from their homes.

Salman’s Current Role on Bigg Boss 20

Following his stint with Dus Ka Dum, Salman went on to host Bigg Boss, taking charge of the reality show for the first time during its fourth season in 2010. He continues to host the show and is currently fronting Bigg Boss 20, where his direct engagement with contestants remains a key highlight.

During a recent episode of Weekend Ka Vaar, Salman called out contestants for suppressing their true personalities inside the house. He observed that some participants were intentionally avoiding conflicts out of fear of facing criticism during the weekend episode. He further remarked that several contestants had played it too safe the previous week, questioning what material he would have to discuss if they continued holding back. His message to the contestants was direct — they should not hesitate to express themselves and should allow their true personalities to come forward.

Adding another twist to the ongoing season, the show witnessed an unexpected mid-week eviction before Salman could conduct the usual weekend proceedings. Bigg Boss announced the surprise elimination of Rhiti Tiwari, daughter of Manoj Tiwari, from the competition, bringing additional uncertainty to an already eventful week in the house.
