IMD Issues Multi-State Alert as Monsoon Withdrawal Nears and Weather Systems Stir Up Trouble

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put several states on high alert as multiple active weather systems are set to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds across large parts of the country. With the monsoon withdrawal expected to begin around September 19, meteorologists warn that the transition period could be anything but calm.

According to IMD forecasts, a cyclonic circulation has developed over southwestern Uttar Pradesh, raising the likelihood of significant rainfall across multiple districts in the state. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain cautious as the system could bring gusty winds and heavy downpours throughout the day.

What makes the current weather situation particularly intense is the simultaneous activation of weather systems over both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Meteorologists describe this dual activation as a rare and powerful combination that could generate wind speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour in coastal and inland regions alike. The convergence of these two systems is expected to fuel widespread rain activity across peninsular and central India.

States including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have been specifically flagged in IMD alerts, with authorities urging people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on local weather bulletins. Low-lying areas are at risk of waterlogging and flash flooding, making preparedness essential.

The monsoon season, which has already delivered above-normal rainfall to many parts of India this year, appears to be signing off with one final burst of intensity. Experts note that while the formal withdrawal of the southwest monsoon typically begins in late September, weather systems often remain active well into October.

IMD has assured the public that it is closely monitoring all developments and will issue timely updates. Citizens are encouraged to follow official advisories and take necessary precautions during this volatile period.
