Katrina Kaif Breaks Silence on Postpartum Body-Shaming and Online Trolling

Katrina Kaif addresses online criticism over her appearance after pregnancy, days after Salman Khan publicly defended her on Bigg Boss 20.

Katrina Kaif has seemingly responded to the online criticism she faced after her recent public appearance at the Ambani Ganpati celebrations, where she was photographed alongside her husband, actor Vicky Kaushal. Following the event, several social media users commented on her physical appearance after the birth of her son, reigniting discussions around body-shaming faced by women post-pregnancy.

On October 8, Katrina was in London to mark the first anniversary of her beauty brand Kay Beauty’s launch in the UK. During the event, she spoke candidly about handling criticism, stressing that one should not let online opinions determine self-worth or influence personal decisions. Although she did not directly mention the recent trolling, her comments appeared to reflect the ongoing conversation about her appearance.

Speaking about the impact of public criticism, Katrina said, “Personally, for me, every time I face critique or comments, if I let that dictate my actions… I would have been paralysed with fear unable to move ahead in my life or in any sphere of life. There are times when the world is going to celebrate you, and other times you have to really be your own biggest cheerleader.”

She further spoke about the importance of self-acceptance, noting that confidence can fluctuate depending on circumstances and life stages. According to Katrina, while there are moments when people feel they are excelling in every area of life, there can also be phases marked by uncertainty and self-doubt. She emphasised that accepting oneself remains essential even while striving for personal growth.

Katrina’s remarks come shortly after Salman Khan defended her against online trolls during a Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 20. Katrina and Vicky welcomed their son, Vihaan Kaushal, in November last year, after which the actress faced criticism regarding her weight and appearance. Salman had questioned why a new mother was being subjected to such scrutiny, pointing out that post-pregnancy weight gain is natural and that she could get back in shape once she resumed film work. He also stressed that Katrina deserved to spend time with her family without facing unwarranted judgment over her physical appearance. In a notable moment on the show, Salman removed his jacket and T-shirt on television, appearing shirtless to highlight how people often judge others based solely on looks, drawing renewed attention to the scrutiny new mothers face during a crucial phase of adjustment.
