Rocketry: A rocket with an unpredictable trajectory

Plot

An R. Madhavan starrer in all sense of the word as it is a one-man show from directing to performing in front of the camera as the lead playing Nambi Narayan. A man with his fair share of compelling controversies and astonishing achievements as a former scientist and aerospace engineer employed by the prestigious institution of ISRO.

The tale was set up to be a blockbuster with spectacles of tense moments as well as action-packed sequences that define the heroic journey for Mr. Nambi. Up until this point, the trajectory is predictable and well on course to make a highly compelling film. However, where it falters is the execution with all due respect to R. Madhavan’s immense effort in pulling off three key aspects of any film. The jingoistic undercurrents define the narrative of a daredevil scientist who brokers deals with Russia.

Amidst all the action, the trailblazing escapades the director simply loses out on the nuances and layers required to stitch a competent narrative. It gradually becomes painfully obvious that the biopic is nothing but a rather simplistic attempt to glorify the central character. He is not just a scientist but a staunch patriot who is also rather conspicuously Hindu. Nambi, is dictated by the values of both these extreme ideals to act in accordance to a form of assumed moral superiority.

Review

This is not to say that the movie doesn’t do anything right as it pulls off its attempt to the depiction of harrowing police brutality. Rocketry also shows the crucifixion of Mr. Nambi in the court of public opinion. Due to the suspicions arising against him as someone who sold his motherland to its arch-nemesis Pakistan. This brings about significant disrepute to the man and his family who have traumatic breakdowns and with his sins. Come redemption a part where the movie truly falls apart.

Mostly due to a mix of poor writing, contrived melodrama without any significant relation to the plot of the film. The film reaches its peak in the form of an interview hosted by a big name Bollywood actor SRK. Shah Rukh Khan makes his return to the silver screen after an uncharacteristic gap of 4 years. However, between inconsistent swings of verbose jargon-filled shots that are hardly cinematic to a clunky script with bouts of melodrama, R. Madhavan’s directorial debut leaves a lot left to be desired.

The movie informs you and educates you. Even if Rocketry is not a great movie it is a great attempt. Rocketry is a good science documentary in all honesty. If you watch this movie you might not feel cathartic but you will learn a lot.

Box Office Collection

Even though the movie is getting mixed reviews it is perfoming well at the box-office. The film saw a 100% jump in Saturday collection. The experts predict that Rocketry: The nambi effect will continue doing well in Box office. You can watch Rocketry: The nambi effect in theatres near you.
