Were you aware that Rajkummar Rao was chosen as a co-star alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Anurag Kashyap’s film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’?
Rajkummar Rao recently shared that in the beginning, he was selected as a co-lead alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Anurag Kashyap’s movie ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. However, there was a subsequent alteration in the script, which resulted in him playing a minor role in the film.
The actor revealed that Anurag saw ‘Love Sex Aur Dhoka’ and reached out to him. According to Rajkummar, this was his strategy; he hoped that directors would notice his work in LSD and consider him for opportunities.
At that time, Anurag informed Rajkummar about ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, where the story revolved around his character and Nawaz’s. It focused on their rivalry. Rajkummar felt excited to be part of an Anurag Kashyap project after LSD, and moreover, in a co-lead role, as he shared in an interview with Mashable India.
Both Rajkummar and Nawaz began preparing for their roles and spent about ten days in the Wasseypur region to immerse themselves in the local dialect. However, Anurag later phoned Rajkummar to convey that ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ underwent significant changes and was now planned as a two-part film. Consequently, his character wouldn’t be as prominent as initially intended. Although Anurag suggested he could withdraw from the project, Rajkummar chose to stay on.
Rajkummar expressed his satisfaction with his decision to take on the role, even though it had limited screen time. It was during the filming of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’ that Rajkummar crossed paths with casting director Mukesh Chhabra, who introduced him to Hansal Mehta. This connection led to his casting in ‘Shahid’ (2012). The success of ‘Shahid’ further solidified Rajkummar’s reputation in the industry as a skilled actor.
Presently, Rajkummar can be seen in Raj & DK’s web series ‘Guns and Gulaab’. The show also features Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, Satish Kaushik, and others. The series has garnered positive reviews from all quarters.
