Actress Urvashi Rautela’s team has issued a stern warning to a Los Angeles-based artificial intelligence company, alleging unauthorised use of her name, photographs and videos. The team has stated that it is pursuing legal remedies and is currently assessing damages amounting to Rs 7,000 crore against the company.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Urvashi’s team claimed that the AI company used the actress’s identity and visual content without securing the necessary legal rights or permission. The statement alleged that the company had earned significant profits through this unauthorised use of her images and videos.
The statement read, “We are pursuing appropriate legal remedies, including damages currently being assessed at Rs 7,000 crore against the Los Angeles-based company. Their business has allegedly generated billions of dollars in value by using Urvashi’s name, images and videos without authorisation.” It further added, “Build your AI (Artificial intelligence) company. Build your brand but keep Urvashi’s name out of your business unless you have permission.”
Not the First AI-Related Controversy
This is not the first time Urvashi has spoken out against AI-generated content involving her. Earlier, she had reacted to an AI-generated image that depicted her bowing before several prominent Bollywood actresses, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Madhuri Dixit, with Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif also featured in the image. Responding to it, she had said, “I truly believe every actress has her own journey, hard work, and destiny. Comparing women or creating fan wars only spreads negativity. Let’s celebrate talent, growth, and kindness instead. Please stop this toxicity.”
The controversy comes amid growing unease among celebrities regarding the misuse of artificial intelligence to recreate or manipulate their names, images, voices and likenesses. Actor Salman Khan recently raised similar concerns during a Bigg Boss 20 episode, pointing out how AI-generated videos featuring him could mislead viewers who are unaware of their fabricated nature. He questioned the intent of those who knowingly create such misleading content.
