Bollywood Legend Dharmendra, the Beloved ‘He-Man’, Passes Away at 89

Bollywood has lost one of its greatest icons. Veteran actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the He-Man of Bollywood, passed away at the age of 89 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on November 11.

The legendary star was admitted after experiencing respiratory issues, his team confirmed. With a career that spanned over six decades, Dharmendra leaves behind a cinematic legacy few can match. His final film, Ikkis, is set to release on December 25 — a fitting farewell to an actor who defined generations of Indian cinema.

He is survived by his wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and their six children — Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Ajeeta, and Vijeta.

Born as Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol in a small village in Ludhiana, Punjab, he entered the film industry after marrying Prakash Kaur in 1954 at the young age of 19. His charm and raw intensity soon made him one of Bollywood’s most adored stars.

Over the years, Dharmendra delivered countless memorable performances in films such as Phool Aur Patthar, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Naukar Biwi Ka, Betaab, and Ghayal. In recognition of his immense contribution to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, in 2012.

Even in his later years, Dharmendra remained a man of the people. His social media posts often showed him working on his farm, driving his tractor, or sharing simple lessons about health, happiness, and humility — a reflection of his grounded spirit and love for life.

With his passing, an era of warmth, strength, and timeless charisma comes to an end — but Dharmendra’s legacy will live on, both on screen and in the hearts of millions.
