JugJug Jeeyo talks about divorce in the most light-hearted way possible. Hindi cinemas have always dealt with divorce with grinding drama and sadness. This is the first time probably that slap-stick comedy is used to talk about divorce. However, the use of comedy is not to undermine the issue but only to highlight the importance of divorce, it is as big of a decision as marriage. The use of comedy helps in dealing with the stigma around divorce and brings it into the mainstream.
JugJugg Jeeyo is not an art film but it is a mass entertainer film, it is clean and fun, and has a lot of song and dance sequences too. Talking about the acting performances, whenever Anil Kapoor is on stage everyone and everything sinks into the background, the man has such a strong screen presence and so does his on-screen wife. Neetu Kapoor is a delight to watch, her acting performance is no doubt good but seeing her dance with Anil Kapoor will give you goosebumps. Together they are well cast and look perfect.
Varun Dhawan playing Anil’s on-screen son shares great chemistry with his father. The father-son banter keeps the viewers hooked, giving enough punchlines and some ‘awe’ moments as well. Varun’s on-screen wife played by Kiara is perfectly cast and she gets to showcase her acting prowess in this film and she takes full advantage of it.
This ensemble reminds you of the Sooraj Barjatya-type films that revolved around the importance of keeping the family together. JugJugg Jeeyo finds its place in between Ham Apke Hai Kaun and Monsoon wedding. There is no reason to miss out on this movie. You will have a great time watching it because the actor is having the time of their life.
