Kanika Mann has become the subject of fresh debate following the latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 20. The actress faced online criticism after her reaction to guests praising co-contestant Qazi Touqeer was perceived by several viewers as a display of jealousy. In response, Kanika’s team has stepped forward to defend her, asserting that she was simply voicing her honest opinion inside the house.
The controversy unfolded when Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana visited the Bigg Boss 20 house to promote their upcoming film Udta Teer. During their interaction with the contestants, Sara shared that one of her close friends is a fan of Qazi and had even voted for him during his earlier stint on the reality show Fame Gurukul. She then requested Qazi to perform the song ‘Afghan Jalebi,’ which he sang for the guests, earning further praise from Ayushmann, who commented that Qazi was doing well.
However, Kanika’s facial expressions during this exchange were seen by many as showing disapproval or mockery. Sara reportedly noticed this and asked Kanika why she didn’t seem pleased. In her reply, Kanika pointed out the link between Sara’s friend and Qazi before questioning the wave of appreciation he was receiving. This moment quickly became a major talking point, with a section of viewers branding her reaction as jealousy.
Team Kanika Hits Back
Responding to the backlash, Kanika’s team took to Instagram Stories with a sharp statement defending her conduct. They began by reminding followers that it is, after all, a reality show meant to capture genuine reactions. “Welcome to the REALity show!” the statement read, before questioning the double standards applied to contestants who speak their minds. The team pointed out that other participants in past seasons were praised for being outspoken, while Kanika was being unfairly judged for doing the same, whether in front of a guest or the host.
The statement further argued that Kanika should not be penalised for taking a stand and expressing her honest views, asking why her honesty was suddenly being questioned. It ended on a bold note, hinting that viewers should brace themselves for more of Kanika’s candid behaviour as the season progresses, suggesting that if a single honest opinion caused this much stir, there was more to come once she started speaking up regularly.
Since entering the Bigg Boss 20 house as one of the season’s original contestants, Kanika was handed the “Puppet Master” power early on, which she used against Qazi, criticising his tendency to dominate conversations and cut others off. She has remained at the centre of several house disputes since, including disagreements over rules, a clash with captain Yung DSA after he took away one of her lifelines, and confrontations with contestants over remarks she found inappropriate. Her disagreement with Qazi over his “lollipop” comment has also been a recurring point of contention inside the house.
