A disturbing case has surfaced from Bihar’s Patna district, where a minor schoolgirl was allegedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered, with her body later discovered on a railway track near Lucknow. The incident has come close on the heels of the Jamui harassment case, adding to public outrage across the state.
According to the report, the victim was a 10th-grade student living in Pathlautiya village under the Bihta area of Patna district. She went missing suddenly on September 18. When her family began searching for her, they learnt that she had allegedly been abducted by three youths from the same village.
On September 19, around 5:00 AM, railway authorities in Lucknow informed the family that the girl had been found injured on a railway track near Alamnagar. By the time the family reached Lucknow, she had succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Following the post-mortem, the family returned to Bihta and lodged a formal complaint at the local police station on Monday.
Accused Named, One Arrested
In her complaint, the victim’s mother named three residents of the same village — Shankar Rai, Durga Rai, and Lakshman Kumar — as the accused, demanding justice for her daughter. The family alleges the crime was a premeditated conspiracy intended to make the murder appear as a railway accident. Bihta police have taken Lakshman Kumar into custody and are questioning him, while the family has demanded the immediate arrest of the remaining accused and strict action against them.
Danapur DSP Amrendra Kumar Jha said police have contacted the Lucknow Government Railway Police (GRP) and are conducting investigations based on mobile phone records, the site where the body was recovered, and the post-mortem report.
This case comes amid ongoing anger in Bihar over a separate incident in Jamui district, where a viral video showed a boy and a girl allegedly being harassed by a group on a roadside on September 19. In that case, two suspects were injured during a police encounter — one sustaining a gunshot wound and the other a leg fracture. Six people, including three juveniles, have been arrested so far in connection with the Jamui harassment case, in which two class 10 students were reportedly intercepted and harassed while returning from coaching classes.
