Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-anticipated film Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, released in theatres with massive hype and delivered a thunderous opening. The gangster drama collected ₹65 crore on its first day, setting the tone for a strong start at the box office. However, despite the initial craze, the film’s collections dipped significantly during the weekdays, slowing down its overall momentum.
According to the latest data from Sacnilk, Coolie earned ₹5.5 crore on its ninth day, taking its total India net collection to ₹235.15 crore. By the end of the first week, the film had already amassed ₹229.65 crore. While the film has comfortably crossed the ₹230 crore mark, it now needs a boost over the weekend to push past the ₹250 crore milestone.
Interestingly, Coolie managed to stay ahead of its competitor War 2—starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR—in terms of initial box office numbers. Yet, its weekday performance fell short of expectations, showing limited growth after the opening weekend.
About
Coolie
Ahead of its release, the film made headlines when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issued it an ‘A’ certificate, surprising fans and the production house alike. Sun Pictures, the producer of the film, even moved the Madras High Court to challenge the decision, questioning why other violent films such as KGF and Beast received a U/A rating while Coolie did not.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film features Rajinikanth in the lead role, supported by a star-studded cast including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj. Aamir Khan also makes a cameo appearance. While reviews from critics have been mixed, audiences have largely celebrated Rajinikanth’s performance and the film’s high-energy presentation.
