Famous Bengali singer Sandhya Mukherjee died of a heart attack at a hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday evening. She was 90 years old. A hospital official gave this information.
Worked with many veterans
Sandhya Mukherjee worked with veteran music directors like SD Burman, Naushad, and Salil Chowdhury. She was hospitalized since the last week of January due to ill health.

A senior hospital official told PTI that Mukherjee died of a heart attack at around 7.30 pm. Mukherjee was found infected with the coronavirus and was also suffering from heart-related ailments. Many of his organs had stopped working.
Mamta Banerjee expressed grief
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the singer’s death by tweeting. Mamta Banerjee tweeted- ‘Deeply saddened that Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, the queen of melody in Bengal, is no more. Her departure creates an eternal void in our world of music and in the hearts of millions of her followers here and in the diaspora. I used to look up to her as my elder sister and this is a grave personal loss to me. She used to be the moving spirit in our Sangeet Akademi and we had conferred upon her Bangabibhushan( 2011), Sangeet Mahasamman ( 2012) etc. We shall continue to pay our tributes to the departed genius.”
Bangladesh CM also expressed grief
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed grief over the demise of famous singer Sandhya Mukherjee. Sheikh Hasina said- ‘Apart from taking his songs to the world of music, he had contributed to the Mukti Yudh (liberation war) of Bangladesh. may his soul rest in peace.’
