YesMadam, an at-home beauty services startup, has come under fire after a viral email suggested that employees were laid off following an internal stress survey. The alleged layoffs have sparked outrage on social media, particularly on LinkedIn, where many professionals criticized the company for using a survey to terminate employees who reported high levels of stress.
Magicpin’s Hiring Campaign
Amid the backlash, shopping and delivery platform Magicpin launched a campaign inviting the affected employees to apply for jobs at their company. The campaign gained attention on LinkedIn, with Madhav Sharma, Creative Director at Magicpin, sharing the initiative.
The post featured an image of two individuals wearing helmets and holding signs. One read, “No madam. Stressed employees can perform! Because they care.” The other stated, “Magicpin invites laid off employees to join across departments,” along with an email address for submitting resumes.
Sharma captioned the post, “This campaign was executed without any stress,” highlighting the company’s creative approach. The initiative was praised on LinkedIn, with users calling it a “phenomenal marketing strategy.” One user commented, “This is what you call, ‘aapda ko avsar me badalna.’ Even if they hire 4-5 employees, it’s still an amazing effort.”
The Controversy at YesMadam
The controversy began when an employee of YesMadam shared a screenshot of an email, claiming that over 100 employees, including herself, were fired after responding to a stress survey.
The email, allegedly from YesMadam’s HR department, stated:
“Recently, we conducted a survey to understand your feelings about stress at work. Many of you shared your concerns, which we deeply value and respect. To ensure that no one remains stressed at work, we have made the difficult decision to part ways with employees who indicated significant stress. This decision is effective immediately, and impacted employees will receive further details separately. Thank you for your contributions.”
The email prompted widespread criticism, with many questioning whether the survey was a pretext for downsizing.
