Haddi Review: Unexpectedly Brilliant Performance by Nawazuddin Siddiqui in 'Haddi' - A Must-Read Review Before Watching

Amid the buzz surrounding Sushmita Sen’s “Aarya,” another remarkable film has graced the OTT platform. “Haddi,” starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, is a powerful, intense drama that promises an exceptional cinematic experience. As the title suggests, it delves into the world of the transgender community and their resilience in the face of adversity. Let’s explore the nuances of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s performance in this gripping revenge drama.

The Plot Unveiled

The film opens with Harika (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who introduces an elderly man to the transgender community, emphasizing their unique strength and unity. However, it doesn’t take long for Harika to transform into Haddi, a daring individual who goes to great lengths to seek vengeance. After a daring body-snatching incident at a crematorium in Allahabad, Haddi finds himself on the run from the police. To evade capture, he escapes to Delhi with his partner, setting the stage for the transformation of Harika into Haddi, a ruthless eunuch, ready to cross any boundaries for revenge. As he rises from a gang member to a formidable underworld don, the story takes thrilling twists and turns.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Surpasses Expectations

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s acting prowess is no secret, but “Haddi” posed a unique challenge. When the film’s poster was first unveiled, there were doubts about whether Siddiqui could convincingly portray a transgender character, akin to Sushmita Sen’s role in “Aarya.” However, Siddiqui not only met expectations but surpassed them. His mannerisms, dialogue delivery, gait, and charisma are exceptional. Watching him on screen, you’ll find yourself applauding his performance.

Anurag Kashyap’s Remarkable Act

Apart from Siddiqui, Anurag Kashyap also delivers a standout performance as Pramod Ahlawat, a gangster-turned-politician. In one memorable scene, Pramod storms into the transgender community’s house, accompanied by his gang, to eliminate them. Amid the chaos and bloodshed, he remains unperturbed, listening to music through his headphones. Kashyap’s portrayal adds depth to the film, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Limited Screen Time for Ila Arun and Jitendra Joshi

In contrast, Ila Arun and Jitendra Joshi, although talented actors, receive limited screen time. However, they make the most of their roles, leaving a lasting impact even in their brief appearances.

Akshat Ajay Sharma’s Directorial Brilliance

Akshat Ajay Sharma’s direction deserves praise for shedding light on the dark underbelly of illegal activities involving politicians. The film keeps you engaged throughout, with the climax revealing the real story’s depth. One standout aspect of “Haddi” is its music. The track “Beparda,” sung by Rekha Bhardwaj, Rohan Pradhan, and Rohan Gokhale, and penned by Rohan Gokhale, is the soul of the movie.

To Watch or Not to Watch?

If you’re eager to witness Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s finest work to date, “Haddi” is a must-watch. If you’re a fan of revenge dramas with compelling narratives, this film should be on your list. However, if graphic violence is not your cup of tea, be forewarned that “Haddi” contains its fair share. Proceed with caution.
